Maren’s Toy Story 2nd Birthday Party

You’re my favorite deputy.

Two-year-olds have a lot of interest, so I gave my daughter, Maren, a few different options when it came to the theme of her 2nd birthday party. She picked Toy Story. This theme was overwhelming and exciting all at the same time. I couldn’t believe how all four movies were still so relevant considering the first one hit theaters in 1995 when I, myself was 6 years old. Every small detail had me reminiscing about my own childhood.

I mean, how cute are these Pizza Planet pizza boxes and the army men on a mission to the cake — this theme was too fun!

Balloons:

I wanted the party to be somewhat girly and I thought the best way to do that without making it a Jessie-themed party (since Maren loves Buzz and Rex) would be through the balloons. These muted boho balloons helped me achieve exactly that. My very talented friend, Chelsea Gennuso did the balloon installation and provided the rented backdrop.

Favors:

I am a big believer in less is more and love making people feel special by just adding a personalized touch. Each kid got a “moving box” with a mini Etch A Sketch, a Toy Story lollipop, and a few toy army men

Entrance Decor:

I have two gates on each side of my house so to lead my guests to a specific gate, I printed these Woody customized footprints and Buzz customized footprints out and decorated my driveway with them to the correct gate.

Guests were then greeted by Partysaurus Rex with balloons and a mini party hat (inspired by HRJ Events) which led to Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie who was accompanied by some strung-up Monkeys in a Barrel.  I also thumbtacked these Wanted Potato Head signs to the wooden gate.

Toy Story Themed Food:

I thought BBQ would tie into the Toy Story theme great, just like the Toy Story-themed restaurant, Roundup Rodeo BBQ in Hollywood Studios at Disney World. I used these cute Etch A Sketch table tents to label all the food.

Appetizers:

  • Woody’s Cowboy Caviar

  • Space Ranger Fuel Pouches

  • Bo Peep’s Sheep (Trader Joe’s White Cheddar Corn Puffs)

  • Al’s Cheese Balls

  • Forky Cheesesticks

Main Meal:

  • Star Command Cornbread

  • Mrs. Nesbit’s Macaroni Salad

  • Rex’s Herbivore Coleslaw

  • Bullseyes Brisket

  • Hamms Pulled Pork

  • Al’s Toy Barn Chicken Thighs

  • Slink’s Mac and Cheese

  • Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head Spuds

Dessert:

make your own forky kit using puff paint googly eyes red pipe cleaners markers and clay
Backyard activities including little tikes bounce house toy story themed tattoos projector and inflatable projection screen

Make Your Own Forky Station, Bullseyes Branding Station and Backyard:

My daughter spent 2 hours of the party at this make-your-own-Forky station. The tattoo station was a last-minute idea and I’m so glad I did it. It was a hit with everyone from age 1 to 70. I also got these fun stickers for kids to put on their water bottles.

For more activities for the kids, we set up our inflatable projection screen and projector to play all 4 movies and a Little Tikes bounce house that we already had on hand.

Attire:

I needed a nod to Sid at the party but I didn’t know how to incorporate him organically, so when I saw this Sid’s Toy Chop Shop onsie I knew I had to get it for my son. My husband wore a Sheriff Woody’s Boot Barn shirt and I wore a shirt that was a play on Woody’s classic line, “There’s a snake in my boot.” I envision us reusing all of these shirts on our next trip to Disney World.

For Maren, I planned on dressing her like Bonnie, tutu and all. However, in a very typical 2-year-old fashion, the day of, she did not want to wear her tutu or the rain boots. So instead she wore her Toy Story-themed character name shirt with our favorite girly lettuce ribbed shorties from Little Co. by Lauren Conrad.

If you ever find yourself contemplating a Toy Story theme — do it. Not only was there an endless amount of fun decor ideas, but this party was fun for all ages. My husband and I both agreed that this was one of our best days with friends and family.
